MACDUFFIE MUSTANG REV

BOYS SOCCER

Junior Varsity vs. Forman
10-15-14

On Wednesday, October 15th, Forman Academy came to MacDuffie to play our junior varsity team on a beautiful day outside. MacDuffie was led by Mirue Choi, who scored two goals in a 6 – 2 defeat. Even though we lost, it was nice to be back at home, where students and parents came out to support the team. Our next game will be home vs. Eagle Hill, on Friday, October 17, at 4 PM.
Varsity vs. Forman
10-15-14

MacDuffie were always ahead in this physical encounter with Forman.  Richard Areche opened the scoring, and Tamer Ackay added a second before the half.  Forman grabbed a goal back in the second half, but Tamer scored again to give the Mustangs a two goal advantage.  Increased Forman pressure in the second half brought some magnificent saves out of Joe Varney, before he unfortunately went down with a suspected knee injury.  Joe was unable to continue.  Vasili agreed to step between the sticks for the remainder of the game.  Even though Forman soon grabbed a second goal, Jordan Foyer secured the victory with a goal with just minutes remaining.  Best wishes are extended to Joe for a full and speedy recovery.

The latest encounter matched MacDuffie with another NEPSAC and CISAC opponent.  The opening 20 minutes was very even against a well organized Class C team, although MacDuffie created several good opportunities as a result of good work from  Ava and Mia on the flanks, only to be met by saves from a very good Westover goalkeeper.  The deadlock was finally broken after 23 minutes when Ania scored a great header direct from Ala’s corner.  The score remained 1-0 at the half.  The second half started with the Mustangs looking more lively, putting the hosts under constant pressure,  This pressure was rewarded by a goal from Ania from Mia’s cross. Mia followed this with two goals of her own, the first from a through ball from Ania, and the second on a beautifully weighted curling pass from Ala.  For both goals Mia drove beyond the defense to run in one-on-one with the keeper, calmly sliding the ball into the net on both occasions.  Ava Marion scored the fifth goal with 5 minutes remaining, picking up a loose ball at the edge of the box, driving to gaol and firing into the roof of the net.  8 Wins from 8 Games.
