Godoy and Devon Huard (‘18) added two more goals within the next ten minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead with almost 30 minutes remaining in the first half. However, the Mustangs went cold and could not put another in the old onion bag until two minutes left in the game when David Drabiniok (‘16) knocked one in at the goalmouth off a mammoth throw in by defender Noah Nunes (‘17). For his superior defensive play and two assists, Nunes was chosen player of the game. MacDuffie stays at home for a Monday game against St. Thomas More next.

MacDuffie 3  Rocky Hill 4

MacDuffie and Rocky Hill squared off in a closely contested game Saturday at noon on the St. Andrew’s pitch. Rocky Hill struck first in the 15th minute with a goal close in that was set up by a nice lofted pass from right to left. MacDuffie answered two minutes later when Cizo Andrade (’18) bent a ball from the top right of the 18-yard box to the top left corner out of the keeper’s reach. Both teams traded goals at the 35th and 40th minutes as Rocky Hill struck again and the Mustangs responded. On a corner kick from the left, Andrade found Noah Nunes’ (’17) head, which flicked the ball at the keeper. On the deflection, Jace Legowski (’18) was able to poke the ball in for the score. With three minutes remaining in the half, Tamer Akcay (’16) put MacDuffie up 3-2 off a nice through ball from Devin Huard (’16). Unfortunately, the Mustangs could not hold the lead and let in two goas in the second half to fall 4-3. Marus Ludkiewicz (’17) played stellar defence in the losing effort. MacDuffie hopes to get back on track against Storm King next Wednesday.

MacDuffie 0  St. Andrew’s 8

The MacDuffie Boys traveled to St. Andrew’s to face the 2014 Class D Soccer Champs on their home turf. The Mustangs were on the defensive for most of the game as St. Andrew’s relentlessly attacked and counter attacked, utilizing both their speed and passing precision. At the half, it was 4-0 St. Andrew’s and as the sun set after a late 5:30 PM kick off, the home team walked off the field with an 8-0 victory. Despite the apparent lopsidedness of the score, MacDuffie goalkeeper Mason Baral (’18) was able to turn back 13 of the 21 shots on net. MacDuffie 4 Williams 1

The MacDuffie Mustangs kicked off the season with a comfortable home win against Williams, CT. It took less than 3 minutes for Hazim Jaber (’19) to cross the ball from the right wing to the back stick where Tamer Ackay was waiting to side foot the ball into the back of the net. From that moment MacDuffie dominated possession, but it was not until the 18th minute that they extended their advantage. Jordan Royer (’16) came off the bench and immediately caused the Williams defense problems with his pace. On a through-ball header from Noah Nunes (’17), Jordan out run the defender to slot the ball calmly beyond the advancing keeper. Before the break, Tamer Ackay made it 3-nil with his second on a pass from Victor Godoy (’16). In the second half the game continued to be played mostly in the visitors half. With 20 minutes remaining Williams gave themselves a ray of hope with a goal on the counter-attack. Mustang keeper, Mason Baral (’18), was unable to prevent the goal on this occasion when the Williams striker beat the off-side trap to run one-on-one with Mason, and fire the ball under his dive. With just 2 minutes on the clock Victor Godoy (’16) sealed the victory with a solo effort from a tight angle.
