Freshly back from Thanksgiving break, the MacDuffie Math Team hosted the third Western Massachusetts Mathematics League (WMML) meet of the year on December 2 in the cafeteria and student center. With over fifteen schools competing, it was huge event involving over a hundred guests.
The MacDuffie Math Team had a great day, scoring 85 points in a tough series of competitive quizzes. This was only six points behind Deerfield Academy, which took first place. Longmeadow (59), Minnechaug (42), West Springfield (42), and East Longmeadow (40) were the next highest scoring teams.
MacDuffie’s Junior team members had especially strong days. Charley Lee and Toby Tran both had perfect scores.
This is the first time MacDuffie has hosted a WMML meet. It was an exciting opportunity to welcome so many schools into our building. The other schools also appreciated seeing MacDuffie, home of the first place WMML team for the last two years.
There are two remaining regular season meets, and possibly the state meet. MacDuffie is currently trailing Deerfield by a total of 17 points. That’s a substantial deficit, but not insurmountable. We are looking forward to a strong finish to the year. The next meet is January 6 at East Longmeadow High School.
