Coach’s Corner – Spring Sports Underway

MACDUFFIE MUSTANG REV

Spring sports practice has been under way for a few weeks now. Tomorrow marks the first official game day of the season with girls’ varsity tennis and lacrosse hosting The Masters School at 4:30 pm while both JV and varsity ultimate frisbee host Marianapolis Preparatory School.

Coach George confesses he has spring fever, “I am excited beyond words at the number of students participating in a spring sport and just as excited about our crew of coaches! They have been working hard sharing facility space and accommodating the massive amount of student athletes to ensure they have the best possible experience; whether that be at the competitive level or learning the fundamentals of the game and being part of a team.”

This season 170 student athletes are participating in seven sports including the newly offered golf team. The coed golf team was added to the spring sports line-up due to the overwhelming interest in last year’s golf club. The golf team lead by Coach Grondin and Coach Seymour, will spend their season playing against other prep schools as well as hosting the end of the season CISAC tournament at their home course, Cold Spring Country Club in Belchertown.

Crew is back for its second year. The coed team under the guidance of Coach Koslosky, rows out of Holyoke Rows and currently has several meets scheduled against Suffield Academy, they anticipate other schools will also be joining, including the Williston Northampton School.

The ever popular ultimate frisbee team keeps growing with both a JV and varsity team again this year. They’re under the guidance of Coaches Shelburne, Kaiser, and Bradshaw. Girls’ lacrosse is back again and under the tutelage of new head Coach Jessica Roll. Coed badminton also has a new coach this year with Coaches Monat and Harris at the helm. Boys’ and girls’ tennis round out our spring offerings, new head Coach Kathleen O’Shea will be overseeing both programs with the assistance of Coaches Cressotti and Deecher.

If you can’t make tomorrow’s games there are plenty of chances to see your MacDuffie athletes in action! Check out macduffie.org for game schedules and results.
