Journalism Conference at Columbia

For the ninth consecutive year, our budding journalists made their annual trip to the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s Spring Convention. The conference is sponsored by Columbia Journalism School and features seminars and workshops led by educators and professionals.

Dean of Students Alun Polga and Meaghan Quinn, advisor for The Muse (our literary magazine), chaperoned the trip. Both are also English teachers who serve as co-advisors for the online student newspaper, The Magnet. Student staff members of both The Magnet and The Muse attended the conference, which took place March 15-17 over Spring Break. The Magnet staff who came on the trip were: Editor-in-Chief Cassidy Polga ’17, Managing Editor Alexis Chapin ’17, Copy Editor Cecelia Messbauer ’17, and senior staff members Nicolette Peterson ’19 and Sarah Scott ’19. The Muse staff members in attendance were Editor Alana Ford ’17 and staff members Aurora Basnet ’19, Georgie Brown ’19, Craig Judicki ’19, and Cindy Nguyen ’19.

It wasn’t all work and no play…the group also took in the Broadway show Kinky Boots!
