Kashaun Hicks Signs with CCSU

Congratulations to Kashaun Hicks ’16, who signed his letter of commitment to play basketball at Central Connecticut State University on April 28. Kashaun, a 6’6″ forward and stellar shooter, is the first recruit this year for the NCAA Division I school.

CCSU issued a press release announcing the news. In a follow-up MassLive article, Kashaun talked about his goals:

“I just want to win, honestly,” Hicks said. “Get through the conference tournament and get to the NCAA tournament, maybe not right away, but that’s obviously a goal. I want to improve my skill, work a lot harder on my body and get built up as a player. I’m a scorer, so I want to do that for my team and win games.”

We’re proud of Kashaun and look forward to being Blue Devils fans next season!

Way to Go, Ala Legowski ’19!

Ala Legowski ’19, whose soccer achievements we shared here on the Around the Circle blog a few months ago, played in the U16 UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Development Tournament in Europe in April.

Ala played for the U17 Polish National Team–a tremendous honor for Ala, her family, and the MacDuffie community. The tournament is the first call-up of the team as U17 players. According to the UEFA website,

“The U16 development tournaments are also designed to prepare the way for players to move into the U17 age group, where European competition begins in earnest. The tournaments have been given glowing references by national associations, coaches and technical experts.”

The team played three games: Norway (0-1), Switzerland (0-1), and Belarus (6-0–and Ala had two assists!).

“This honor could not happen to a more deserving person,” said Meirion George, Athletic Director and Girls’ Varsity Soccer coach at The MacDuffie School. “Ala works exceptionally hard both on the soccer field and in the classroom; she typifies the best of what prep school student-athletes represent. We are all so proud to have her as a member of our MacDuffie community, and we are so happy to support her continued growth as a soccer player, athlete, and student.”

Ala will be going back a few more time this year to play in international matches and to attend training camps. In October, she’ll play in the U17 European Cup qualifying games in Hungary.

We wish Ala a fantastic year filled with victories and great experiences!
