BS, University of Massachusetts, Amherst

Hello! My name is Tina Hamel and I’m thrilled to say this is my 14th year teaching high school science. I grew up in Chicopee, Massachusetts and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Bay Path University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The University of Massachusetts Amherst. I have worked in the life insurance, medical, and juvenile district court systems. After serving over four years as a police officer in the state of Massachusetts I came to the realization that I had a passion for teaching. This became apparent from teaching an introductory to Psychology course at UMASS while finishing up my degree.

I enjoy cooking, reading, watching movies, sports and spending time with my husband Michael and family.

“Coach” is a title that Aaron Patterson is proud to have because of his love for helping young people achieve their goals and dreams on the basketball court. No matter the level, Coach Patterson finds peace and happiness in the gymnasium training basketball players who aspire to do great things. He is equally proud of the many hard-working and dedicated youth, high school and college players he has trained over the years as he is of Jeremy Lamb of the Indiana Pacers and Tremont Waters of the Boston Celtics, two professional players Coach Patterson has had the opportunity to coach. When not coaching Patterson enjoys collecting fine art, traveling with his family, playing golf, eating ice cream and partaking in an intense Cross Fit workout. Someday he hopes to get the opportunity to live part-time in Paris with his wife Michelle … during the off-season only of course!

After a long career as a cosmetologist, co-owning a salon/day spa, and raising her family, Erica earned her nursing degree and is proud to be working full time as a head nurse. Originally from Western Mass, she enjoys the different seasons throughout the year and the fresh look they bring. When not caring for the medical needs of students, Erica enjoys social time with her husband and two young teenage children. They enjoy their time being on the boat, traveling, and exploring new adventures such as rope courses, hang gliding, and go-cart racing. In her alone time Erica also enjoys reading and researching projects for her house and best deals on new vacation spots.

On the Latin side, his current professional interests are the history and archaeology of early Rome (especially Roman historical myths), Roman social history, Roman imperialism, and the art and literature of the Augustan Age.  On the History side, his current professional interests are comparative world history (especially empires), imperialism and gender, and the relationship between historical developments and environmental and climatic factors.

He feels particularly suited to teaching Latin and History because he spends an inordinate amount of time living in the past.  Despite this, he bases his personal outlook on the words of Nick Charles in the 1934 film The Thin Man: “Don’t kid yourself. THESE are the good old days.”
