What began as an after school club by a group of talented students in 2009, the MacDuffie Ultimate team has turned into one for the more popular Varsity athletic options at MacDuffie. The Mustangs are able to field a full Varsity team and JV/Middle School team, and competes in games against local public and private schools, as well as attending larger tournaments throughout the spring.

Every spring the MacDuffie community looks forward to a favorite tradition – the annual MacDuffie Faculty vs. Ultimate Frisbee team game. Many recent graduates return to campus to participate in the MacDuffie Alumni vs. MacDuffie Varsity team on that same day.

Coach Peter Shelburne will continue his great work as the driving force behind the success of our Ultimate Frisbee teams and program.

Match Report:

Thursday May 20, 2021 – The Mustangs lost a few points early on but held tough exchanging points in the blistering heat on Thursday afternoon in Northampton. Despite being substantially outnumbered, MacDuffie players played determined defense and passionate offense, outscoring the Northampton team 5 to 4 in the second half.  The Northampton Blue Devils played a well trained stack offense, with aggressive cuts and smooth handling skills. It was a totally different game than Tuesday’s, when Four RIvers played zone throughout.  The Mustangs made the transition to this different style and finished strong. The game was ended due to the time limit – final score MacDuffie 9 – Northampton JV 11.

Great job, team!   Coach Shelburne

Tuesday May 18, 2021 We had our first game today and it was quite a success. Several players played in their first ever game and we had quite a few great plays. Everyone got plenty of playing time and made substantial contributions.  We couldn’t quite pull out a victory against an extremely well trained Varsity level team – but I think we had an excellent showing with a final score of 6 -15. We learned a lot, and can definitely improve our game next time around. For the first time we have ever actually been able to compete with a team of 7 players, I think we were fantastic.  Coach Shelburne.
